Beer Review: Goose Island Night Stalker Imperial Stout

Deep, deep brown, almost black, with no head to speak of, unexpectedly high carbonation and little perceived alcohol hear despite the 11.7% ABV. Chocolate, coffee, and believe it or not, citrus flavors in the mix. Cherry taste floats to the top as I take in more than a sip. Good stuff (nice label too)

Beer Review: Baltika 4 (Dark Lager)

This Russian brewery hasn't let me down yet, the latest was Baltika 4 (each style has its own number) a dark lager. It poured with a full, frothy head and is a dark coppery color. probably the best dark lager I've had to date. The malt taste was very evident, with lots of caramel and a little chocolate. Hmmm, even a little toastiness hovering beneath the surface...yeah

Beer Review: Hobgoblin

Not as good as the "Wychcraft" from the same brewer. Lots of bullshit on their website about brewing it only at the full moon and the energies of the universe, blah, blah, blah. fair, drinkable, but nothing memorable.

Beer Review: Baltika 6 (Porter)

Check out the label in Russian! The one I bought was in English. I tried a Baltika lager not too long ago, but the porter exceeds it by far. High carbonation for a porter, very malty with chocolate and even some raisins in the mix. Nice hoppiness, but it seems like it's a hops type that I'm unfamiliar with. Didn't pour with much of a head, but it's thick, strong and bitter. Definitely worth trying.

Beer Review: Wychwood Brewery's Wychcraft Blonde Ale

I've got to admit, the name was what drew me to this beauty, but after 500 ml. of fine English Blonde Ale, I'm glad that I did! Wychcraft is brewed by Wychwood Brewery in the United Kingdom; it pours a cloudy orangey golden color, with a hefty white head. Kind of a biscuity flavor and no shortage of hops. Almost like hops dipped in caramel & butterscotch. As I got closer to the bottom of the glass I thought I tasted some Granny Smith apple in there too. While not an everyday or lawnmower beer, definitely a treat for now and again. Blessed be!

Beer Review: Schell's Pils

Used to be called Schell's Pilsner but it was shortened to Pils with the new label change this year. The color is a standard clear gold with a thin white head, medium-bodied and smooth. Hops are evident but not overwhelming and the malt is balanced nicely. Another fine summer brew...nay, a year round beer!

Beer Review: Mighty Arrow by New Belgium

Pale golden in color, small head that leaves a snowy white lacing, this American Pale Ale is a summer winner. Good hop character, a little bit of honey and citrus, but mainly just a top-notch summer beer.

Beer Review: Schell's Zommerfest

A Kölsch style lager, Schell's Zommerfest is crisp and clean and like most
Kölsches, it's an ideal summer beer. Some nice spicy hoppiness to it, but nothing that would scare off the hopaphobic. Great after a hot day doing hot day things.

Beer Review: Lucky Bucket India Pale Ale

6.3% ABV and 65 IBU...mmmm...hoppy! I had one of these babies while sitting outside grilling a steak. Great balance between malt and hops; honey-colored, medium head and a mild, smooth taste.

Beer Review: Baltika

Brewed in Russia, Baltika is a pale golden lager. Nothing complicated going on, but a nice cool, crisp summer type beer that reminds me of Belgian Witbiers.
